STAFF
oF OCCRI

The staff of the Oregon Climate Change Research Institute includes:

Dr. Philip Mote
Dr. Ahmed Salahuddin
Heather Lintz
Kathie Dello
Darrin Sharp
Julie Cope
Meredith Payne

Dr. Philip Mote - Director
email: pmote@coas.oregonstate.edu
phone: 541-737-5694
Dr. Mote has an A.B. in Physics from Harvard College, and a PhD in Atmospheric Sciences from the University of Washington. His research interests include: regional modeling with massive ensembles using volunteer computing; optimal design of surface climate observing networks; finescale variability of surface temperature; mountain snowpack and its response to climate variability and change; impacts of climate change on water resources, forests, shorelands; sea level rise; and strategies for adaptation to climate change. Dr. Mote is a professor in the College of Oceanic and Atmospheric Sciences (COAS) at Oregon State University. In 2009 he left the Climate Impacts Group at the University of Washington to become the first director of OCCRI.

Dr. Ahmed Salahuddin - Post Doctoral Researcher
email: asalahud@coas.oregonstate.edu
phone: 541-737-5222
Dr. Salahuddin recently joined OCCRI to work on the regional climate modeling project. He holds a PhD in Coastal Resources Management from East Carolina University, an MA in physical geography from Ohio University, and an MS in physical geography from Katholieke Universiteit Leuven in Belgium. His research interests include global climate change and its feedbacks with regional climates, El Nino / Southern Oscillation and the Madden-Julian Oscillation, and adaptive strategies for climate change and the rise of sea-level.

Heather Lintz - PhD Candidate
email: lintzh@science.oregonstate.edu
phone: 541-737-2312
Heather has an M.S. in Botany from OSU and is working on a PhD in Botany. She works on the basic mathematical properties of species response functions, as applied to tree species distribution in the Pacific coastal states. When she finishes her PhD she will join OCCRI as a Research Assistant Professor.

Kathie Dello - Faculty Research Assistant
email: kdello@coas.oregonstate.edu
phone: 541-737-8927
Kathie has a B.S. in Atmospheric Science and an M.A. in Geography (Physical) from the University at Albany (State University of New York). Her interests include regional climate change, climate trends analysis, sea level rise, impacts of climate change on water quality and resources, and climate change adaptation.

Darrin Sharp - Faculty Research Assistant
email: dsharp@coas.oregonstate.edu
phone: 970-219-6713
Darrin has a B.S. and M.S. in Computer Science from the University of Illinois (Urbana), and an M.S. in Ecology from Colorado State University. He has experience working in both high-tech and the environmental sciences. His interests include the development of information systems used for ecological and environmental research.

Julie Cope - Program Assistant
email: jcope@coas.oregonstate.edu
phone: 541-737-5705
Julie Cope has worked at Oregon State University for the past 28 years. From 1982 to 2002 she worked with international students at the English Language Institute. From 2002-2008 she was the Asst. Director of the NSF Earth's Subsurface Biosphere (ESB) Integrative Graduate Education and Research Traineeship (IGERT) PhD Program Program in the College of Oceanic and Atmospheric Sciences. When the IGERT program ended, she worked for 18 months as the Program Assistant for Sponsored Programs in the Research Office.

Meredith Payne - PhD Candidate
email: payne.meredith@epamail.epa.gov
phone: 541-867-5022 (HMSC)
Meredith has a B.S. in Physics from University of Puget Sound and an M.S. in Geological Sciences from Arizona State University. For her PhD research in the College of Oceanic and Atmospheric Sciences, she is collaborating with USGS and EPA scientists using satellite remote sensing techniques to investigate recent changes in vulnerable coastal environments along Western North America.
